Land Use

Mount Washington is zoned for single-family residential homes and that is the overwhelming land use on the hill. Unlike the single-family residential subdivisions found in many other places in the Los Angeles region, Mount Washington features lots subdivided many years ago but developed mostly one lot at a time. The individual development of Mount Washington has attracted a uniquely diverse group of community residents that value the “close to nature” living so close to downtown Los Angeles.

This section of the MWHA website summarizes our organizational core values with respect to land use, provides an introduction to the key land use documents of the City of Los Angeles relevant to property in the community, and summaries current and past significant land use controversies in Mount Washington.
